The Ultimate Buyers Guide to Baby Rompers

What is a baby romper?

A baby romper is a one-piece item of clothing, with buttons or fasteners between the legs to allow for easy nappy changes. Rompers are a popular choice of clothing for babies due to their comfort, ease of accessibility for changing nappies, and they allow a full range of movement for crawling.

Our traditional baby rompers are hand smocked and embroidered for a luxury style, whilst maintaining the comfort required from a romper.

Why are rompers good for babies?

As well as being very comfortable, the fact that rompers are a single piece of clothing means that active and wriggly babies are less likely to escape from their clothes when wearing one.

Fasteners on rompers also mean they are easy to put on and take off for nappy changes.

All our rompers are 100% fine cotton and machine washable at 30 degrees, which any parent will see as an essential component for a newborn’s wardrobe and the many daily changes!

How to put on a baby romper

When putting a romper on your baby, there are a couple of different options, bottom-to-top, or top-to-bottom. We run through how to put on a baby romper in both ways below:

Bottom-to-top

  1. Choose your romper and place it the correct way round as it is to be worn.
  2. Place your baby’s legs through the leg holes, one at a time.
  3. Pull the romper up the body so you have enough material for the next step.
  4. Find the collar and place this over your baby’s head.
  5. Place your baby’s arms through the arm holes, one at a time.
  6. Once the romper is fully on, fasten up the buttons between the legs to ensure the romper stays on and in place.

Top-to-bottom

  1. Choose your romper and place it the correct way round as it is to be worn.
  2. Place the collar of the romper over your baby’s head.
  3. Find the romper sleeves and place your baby’s arms through the arm holes, one at a time.
  4. Pull the romper down the body so you can easily finish putting the romper on.
  5. Place your baby’s legs through the leg holes, one at a time.
  6. Once the romper is fully on, fasten up the buttons between the legs to ensure the romper stays on and in place.

How should a baby romper fit?

If you’re in doubt about what size romper to choose for your child, or your baby is between sizes, it’s generally better to choose the size up. This ensures a comfortable fit and allows for room to grow. Or rompers are designed to look great if the legs gather around the knee or thigh, so they last through a couple of growth spurts!
